More concerned about slimming down than plumping up? KYBELLA® might be for you. Kybella can improve unwanted areas of fat such as double chins, bra fat and outer thighs.

Our motto: If you can pinch it, you can inject it.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA approved injectable that permanently dissolves submental (that’s a fancy way to say “under the chin”) fat, resulting in a sharper and more defined jawline. You can blame genetics, aging (thanks, gravity) and weight loss for your double chin, but Kybella can come to your rescue by specifically targeting extra submental fat, sculpting your jawline and improving your profile!

Kybella’s active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid, which is a lab-created version of acid that naturally occurs in the body to aid digestion and fat absorption in the intestine. Kybella injections actually destroy fat cells, eliminating their ability to store or accumulate fat, providing a permanent fix to your double chin.

While Kybella is only FDA approved to treat submental fat, it is also effective on other stubborn areas such as bra fat — the “armpit bulge” between your arm and bra and the skin surrounding your bra strap. Kybella also attacks postpartum belly fat and extra skin on your upper arms, above your knee, on your outer thighs and between your legs and buttocks.

Kybella is most effective for patients who are a healthy body weight, but who have stubborn pockets of fat.

Typical Kybella Treatment

To prep for Kybella, avoid vigorous exercise, saunas and hot tubs 48 hours before and after your appointment.

Treatment sessions are typically under 30 minutes, and involve multiple small injections (depending upon the amount of fat cells) in the treatment area.

Our patients tell us that the injections sting and burn a little, but are comparable to Botox injections.

Recovery and Results

Expect tenderness, swelling, slight redness, bruising and numbness. These visible side effects should only last a few days.

Kybella can do wonders for troublesome areas of fat, but it’s not an instant fix. Depending on how much fat is in the area, you might need up to six treatments to see results, and sessions must be scheduled eight to twelve weeks apart. You may not see full results until four to six months after your final treatment, but the wait will be worth it!

Five Conditions We Treat With Kybella

Common Kybella Questions

How is Kybella different from liposuction?

Kybella is a less invasive treatment than liposuction — which means shorter recovery time — and tends to be less expensive.

Can I drive myself home after a Kybella treatment?

Yes, you will be awake throughout the procedure and can drive after your treatment.

Will I be able to return to work after a Kybella treatment?

Yes, but you may experience swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection site.

Is Kybella really a permanent treatment?

Kybella permanently dissolves fat that would not otherwise respond to weight loss. Kybella is not a treatment to help you lose those “last five pounds,” but a targeted approach to dissolving fat cells in small areas.
