If you follow Skin Pharm on Instagram, you know that 2019 was a very busy year for founder Maegan Griffin and her team. In addition to expanding the popular Skin Pharm skin care line (we know you’re loving new formulas like Youth Eye Complex, Charcoal Mask and our most recent launch, Glow Factor), Maegan announced that we will open another practice in Atlanta in March. The flagship Nashville office continues to grow along with our Nashville family, including new patients, new employees and new Skin Pharm babies!

If you follow Maegan on Instagram, you know that she spends a lot of time developing effective formulas for the Skin Pharm line and answering questions from followers so they can find the right products and procedures to treat their skin care concerns. Driven by a mission to help patients look and feel good, Maegan leads her team of knowledgeable, approachable providers to advise patients on a personalized treatment regimen that yields noticeable yet natural results.

Also a wife and busy mom of two, Maegan recently shared more about how she finds balance in her life while running a business and finding time for wellness, travel, and friends. She also shared her own skin care routine built with the same products recommended to Skin Pharm patients. We asked Maegan to share more about the procedures she loves to keep her skin looking great. Here are five treatments Maegan can’t live without:

Gold Infusion: As fun as it looks!

1. Gold Infusion

“It’s been a busy year, so I didn’t get much done in 2019,” Maegan says. “I’ve been taking good care of my skin at home, so I didn’t feel that I needed many treatments.”

That being said, Maegan felt the effects of the holidays on her skin in early 2020.

“My skin felt wrecked from traveling, holiday food, the stress of opening another location,” she admits. “My skin felt dull, so the first thing I did in 2020 is a Gold Infusion treatment.”

This cocktail of hydrating antioxidants and vitamins is a quick, refreshing pick-me-up that energizes your complexion. Since results are visible one to three days after treatment and last about three months, you’ll stay golden until springtime!

That happy, relaxed feeling when your Botox fully kicks in

2. Botox

You may have heard that Botox is not only a solution to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, but a preventative treatment that keeps those lines and wrinkles from forming in the first place. Maegan is living proof of this.

“I started getting Botox at 24,” she says. “By starting Botox early, many patients find they eventually need Botox less frequently, and in smaller doses.”

Maegan avoided Botox during her two pregnancies (opting for microneedling instead — more on that below). Now, she says that she gets Botox quarterly, so she’ll plan her next treatment in March.

DIY Microneedling: For medical professionals only!

3. Microneedling

Maegan started microneedling in her late 20s and increased frequency during her two pregnancies when she avoided injectables and fillers. In addition to improving skin hydration, texture and firmness, Maegan’s early microneedling treatments helped build the strength of her dermis, the layer of skin below the epidermis, or the surface layer of the skin.

“I like to call the dermis the ‘business layer’ of the skin,” Maegan says. “The dermis is where you have collagen and elastin, and that’s what you want to plump up because that’s what makes you look younger. The dermis is what you want to be thicker; the epidermis is not. With our skin care, we’re trying to thin or shed the epidermis, or the rough scaly skin on the surface.”

Microneedling rejuvenates your skin by encouraging the production of new collagen, elastin and capillaries in the dermis. Since our skin thins with time, building up the “business layer” early on helps your skin hold its overall structure longer.

“Plumping up the dermis and shedding the epidermis is key to healthy, glowing and smooth skin,” Maegan explains.

Adding PRP to your microneedling further increases collagen production and speeds up the recovery process. Since Maegan feels that she needs microneedling with PRP twice a year, she’ll have her first session around May or June.

Cheek Filler: an annual pick-me-up

4. Filler

Another thing that happens when you age? Your fat pads move.

“Our fat pads move downwards and in, so our face loses structure” Maegan says. “Filler helps your skin regain structure.”

Dermal fillers are injected beneath the skin to plump lips, enhance cheekbones, chins, jawlines and temples. Fillers can also improve under eye hollowing or darkness, lift eyebrows, erase smile lines, and generally improve overall appearance.

Maegan started getting cheek filler once a year in her mid-20s, and says that this is one treatment she’ll never skip.

“I’ll always do cheek filler once a year,” she says.

Facial dermal fillers typically last between six to 18 months, depending on the product, the area of treatment, and the patient. Maegan has found that every 12 months works best for her, so she’s planning her next cheek filler treatment mid-summertime.

BBL: This machine kills sun damage (gently, of course).

5. BBL Photofacial

Many of us made the mistake of getting too much sun exposure in our youth. Maegan, who is now vigilant about daily SPF use, admits that she did, too. But when she was in her early 20s, Maegan got serious about her skin care.

“I had to deal with the fact that I went to tanning beds in high school,” she says. “I started using SPF every day, and vitamin C and retinol to reverse the sun damage from high school and college.”

In addition to using the right products (today, she recommends Glow Factor for vitamin C and Retinol Drops for retinol) to combat signs of sun damage, Maegan started getting BBL Photofacials in her mid-20s. This non-invasive, customizable treatment uses high-intensity pulses of visible light to improve the appearance of red and brown pigment.

Since Maegan wears SPF every day and has avoided sun exposure as much as possible, she doesn’t need them as frequently anymore. She might add one to her regimen twice per year.

“If you adhere to a good skin care routine and start regular treatments at a younger age, you don’t have to be so procedure-heavy later on,” she says.

What about you? Well, you deserve good skin too!

It’s 2020, and everyone’s talking about fresh starts, resolutions (or whatever you want to call them) and refocusing for the new year and the new decade. Many of our patients tell us that when they start a new skin care routine — whether that’s using new products or incorporating services like injectables or laser treatments — it helps them evaluate other areas of their lifestyle. This could include diet and exercise, but it’s also about limiting sun exposure, drinking lots of water and treating yourself kindly as you integrate lifestyle changes. We’re big believers in finding balance!

At Skin Pharm, we hope you take this opportunity to ask yourself if your skin care products are working for you. If they’re not, it’s time to ditch them.

Not sure what to replace them with? We’re here to help!

Cleanser

You may not think that your cleanser can affect your skin much, but if you’re using the wrong one for your skin type, you could be causing irritation. Consider how your skin feels when you use your usual cleanser — does it feel tight after you wash, or does it feel like residue is left on your skin? If so, you may be using the wrong formula. Additionally, if your cleanser isn’t effectively removing your makeup, you could be causing more breakouts or preventing your products from absorbing. We recommend Skin Pharm Papaya Enzyme Cleanser for all skin types, which removes makeup and unblocks pores while leaving skin feeling soft, smooth and nourished. For normal to dry/sensitive skin, try our Gentle Soothing Cleanser, a nourishing, non-greasy formula that gently removes all traces of makeup.

How you cleanse your skin is as important as what you’re using — be sure to dispense two to three pumps of cleanser into your hands and massage onto dry face and eye area. Add warm water to form a lather, and then rinse clean. Gently pat skin dry.

Toner

Don’t fret if you’re not currently using a toner — it’s an easy step to forget or skip, but it’s just as easy to add! Skin Pharm patients are crazy for our Clarifying Pads, a quick step you can add to your routine after you cleanse to reduce dullness and tighten pores. Oiler skin types use these once (or even twice) a day, but dry and sensitive skin types may only need them once a week. If you’re new to our Clarifying Pads, you may notice a tingling feeling when you first start using them — that means the unique acid complex is working! — so it’s best to build up use gradually to see what frequency is best for you. If you notice more irritation, reduce usage until your skin acclimates to the formula.

The pads are easy to use — simply swipe them across your face, avoiding the eye area, and allow to fully absorb before moving to the next step.

Serum

Do you want 2020 to be your most radiant year yet? Of course you do, which is why you need to add Skin Pharm Glow Factor to your daily routine. First, apply a full dropper of Skin Pharm Youth Serum, into your hands and, using upward strokes, massage on your face, neck and décolletage. Youth Serum’s hyaluronic acid and anti-aging peptides hydrate your skin, minimize fine lines and giving instant an skin-plumping and firming effect. Once the Youth Serum has fully absorbed, apply Glow Factor to brighten and replenish skin. Formulated with freshness in mind, you’ll play chemist at home by mixing the active powder (vitamins) with the fluid (tonic in the bottle) to create your very own, effective serum. Glow Factor combines the perfect dose of antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E and ferulic acid) to brighten and replenish skin. Used daily, this serum works as a multivitamin to give you glowing skin.

Moisturizer

Incorporating anti-aging products into your skin care routine is important no matter your age. We can’t go back in time, but we can nourish our skin better as we move forward! For AM moisturizing, try our Brightening Lotion, which absorbs quickly and provides a good base for cosmetics. Suitable for all skin types, Brightening Lotion hydrates and smooths skin and uses botanical extracts to reveal radiant, luminous skin. You can also use Brightening Lotion as your PM moisturizer, but if your skin tends to be on the dry or sensitive side, we recommend our Biotherapy Cream. An intensely hydrating solution in a whipped, lightweight formula, Biotherapy cream is powered by peptides and ceramides to hydrate, plump and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Extra dry/sensitive types can use this AM and PM instead of Brightening Lotion.

Eye Cream

Take care of the delicate skin around your eyes with our Youth Eye Complex, a fast-absorbing gel that you can use in the mornings and evenings. Similar to our Youth Serum, Youth Eye Complex is packed with peptides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to decrease puffiness and treat fine lines, wrinkles and decreased elasticity. Lightly pat around eye area using your ring finger until fully absorbed. It’s ideal for AM usage as you can apply eye makeup after!

SPF

We say it over and over again, and for good reason — SPF is the number-one way to prevent the signs of aging on your skin. You need to wear SPF every day, so don’t skip this step in your skin care routine! We recommend at least SPF 30, and our favorites are 100% Mineral Tinted SPF or  Sheer Defense SPF by Skin Pharm. 100% Mineral Tinted SPF is best for dry, normal and sensitive skin types while Sheer Defense is best for those who are oily. If you’re going to be in direct sunlight during the day (any time of the year — not just summertime), you will need to reapply your SPF every two hours, or each time it’s rinsed off with water. And remember, the SPF in your makeup does not count as a reapplication, as you’re likely not applying enough makeup to get the full benefit from the SPF coverage.

Polishing

Polishing isn’t an everyday step, but something to add into your routine as needed. Using products that encourage the removal of dead skin and healthy cell turnover is essential to revealing smooth, clear glowing skin. Incorporating a retinoid product into your routine does require building tolerance, but the results are worth it. Our Retinol Drops combat hyperpigmentation, loss of firmness, free radical damage, dark spots, melasma, fine lines and wrinkles, and this powerful formula is suitable for use up to every other day. When you first start with the drops (apply them in the evenings after your moisturizer) you may only need them once or twice a week until you build up tolerance.

If you love a good scrub, our Clarifying Brightening Polish is a great addition to your skin care routine. Salicylic acid and bio-friendly exfoliation beads (that means they don’t hurt the planet!) gently remove dull skin. Gently massage a small amount on your skin, avoiding the eye area, and start with once a week, especially on drier skin types. Oilier skin types can use every other day.

When introducing any new skin care product, we advise building up use gradually to lessen irritation. Don’t be concerned if you notice that you’re shedding more skin than usual. Integrating stronger ingredients like acids and retinol promote the removal of dead skin and encourage skin cell renewal, so shedding is part of the process to revealing beautiful, glowing skin.

Let’s kick this decade off with a bang — and great skin!

We love Botox, and we’re not ashamed to admit it! And you shouldn’t be, either.

We love that Botox erases dynamic wrinkles, or fine lines caused by repeated facial movements. These movements range from smiling and laughing (which we certainly don’t recommend cutting back on for the sake of your face) to glaring and frowning (we’re not here to mess with ability to look angry, or even your RBF). But did you know that Botox injections can be used for far more than targeting wrinkles?

Lip Flip

The lip flip is one of our most requested procedures, as it creates a more pronounced, defined lip without adding volume. We inject a small amount of Botox into the orbicularis oris, the muscles around the mouth, to relax these muscles, slightly rolling the lip outward. The results are subtle but noticeable, relaxing the upper lip and enhancing the Cupid’s bow. If you’re looking for more definition in your lips but not necessarily more volume, this treatment is for you! If you want volume, we can do a lip flip in combination with other lip fillers — just ask your nurse practitioner about what options are the best fit for you.

Gummy Smile

Since we’re talking about the mouth, Botox can also help the appearance of a “gummy” smile, or an excessive amount of gum visible under the upper lip. In the past, this was often treated by excessive orthodontic treatment or surgical procedures, but now we can simply inject Botox to relax the lip, giving you a more balanced, confident smile. Studies show that this treatment is a non-invasive option that provides visible results, especially for patients looking for a minimally-invasive solution. Again, talk with your Skin Pharm nurse practitioner about the best treatment option for you, as additional lip fillers like Juvederm or Restylane could also help balance by adding fullness.

Jaw Botox

Masseter Botox — injecting Botox along the jawline — can slim and define your jawline, further defining your face shape. We can also do this in combination with fillers like Juvederm or Restylane for added balance and definition. This procedure has an added benefit for individuals who are prone to clenching or grinding their teeth, as it relaxes the masseter muscle where tension is held. Our patients tell us that in addition to the defined jawline (which they love), they’re experiencing fewer headaches and jaw pain. Talk to your Skin Pharm nurse practitioner if you’re experiencing headaches or jaw pain, as Botox may help alleviate these symptoms.

Remember, Botox takes up to two weeks to fully take effect, so plan accordingly if you’re getting injections before an event.

One of my favorite things about Skin Pharm is the open dialogue we have with our patients. We love interacting with you on Instagram, where we’ll ask you questions about topics like the products and services we offer, where we should open our next location, or what we can do to make your experience here better.

I’m often asked how I balance running a business with being a wife and mother to two young children. I’m not going to lie: It’s not easy. But it’s also the most gratifying life I could have imagined. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I have figured out that living a roughly 80/20 life works for me.

Roughly 80/20? What does that mean?

The fact that I’m calling it a “roughly 80/20 life” tells you a lot about me. I’m not the kind of person who counts every calorie or micro manages every second of the day. There are days where I’ll come home from the office, have dinner with my family, and after the kids are in bed, I’ll have an idea that I want to explore or bounce off my husband Brad. I can’t predict when inspiration will strike, so I can’t draw a hard line between work and play.

I aim to be disciplined 80% of the time. When it comes to diet, I do my best to eat nourishing food — high protein and low carb works for me — and fit in regular workouts. I never eliminate anything, but I bring healthy food to the office — I love salads and the hot kale wrap from E+Rose — so I have plenty of fuel to get through a busy day. I constantly drink water throughout the day, as I know it’s important to hydrate from the inside out. I limit the amount of caffeine and alcohol I consume, because I feel the toll it takes on my skin.

For exercise, I’m a big fan of CorePower Yoga, especially their incredible Yoga Sculpt classes, and I try to get a solid workout in three times a week. I like to think that chasing two toddlers around burns calories that I can’t even begin to quantify!

I try to get as much sleep as possible, which can be challenging with young kids, but I notice the effects on my skin — and my mood — when I’m sleep deprived. I’ve also noticed that I need more sleep than I used to (but really, could any of us keep up with the college versions of ourselves today?).

So if that’s the 80%, what’s the other 20% look like?

I’m human. I have days where I snack all day, eat too many carbs and too much sodium, drink tequila and skip workouts. Pizza is a weakness. Cereal is a weakness (if Lucky Charms are in the house, I’m screwed). But I feel the effects of this “20%” behavior pretty quickly, and that’s enough to get me back on track, which is why I don’t feel the need to entirely eliminate anything from my diet. By being disciplined more often than not, my body and skin thank me.

One of my favorite ways to pack nutrients into a quick, easy meal is to make a smoothie. I’ve asked you to share some of your favorite smoothie recipes on Instagram before, but I have a super easy one I keep coming back to: Lean1 Protein (chocolate flavor) mixed with a handful of spinach and either coconut water or water and ice. Sometimes I add a scoop of peanut butter when I use the smoothie as a meal replacement.

You planned ahead this year and made sure you booked your appointment for fillers and microneedling so you’d be extra glowing for all those holiday parties, yay! But you didn’t plan on the combination of cold temperatures, dry air from the heat being on overdrive, late nights, and one too many glasses of bubbly wreaking havoc on your skin. If you wake up feeling less than fabulous, here are some tips to get you back on track.

Help! Everything feels dry.

Did you wake up feeling like a raisin today? We know the feeling. Cold air carries less moisture than warm air, and cranking up the heater isn’t helping, either — all that dry air can cause skin irritation ranging from redness and flaking to cracking, chapping and even bleeding. Gross, we know. Add alcohol — which increases inflammation in the skin and can cause blood vessels to dilate, leading to redness — and you’ve set yourself up for one rough morning. Fortunately, that rough morning can be avoided with a bit of preparation.

You can combat the dry air by sleeping with a humidifier and by adding ultra moisturizing products to your skincare routine, such as our Skin Pharm Biotherapy Cream. This skin lifesaver is packed with intensely moisturizing ingredients that work together to repair your skin’s barrier function, combating dryness, restoring firmness and visibly reducing signs of aging, all while you sleep.

For days — or nights — when you need some extra TLC, we recommend Epionce’s Enriched Firming Mask. Powered by botanical ingredients that nourish stressed-out skin with a proprietary blend of barrier lipids, this mask calms visible redness and irritation. This mask works as a quick 10-minute refresher in the AM and is gentle enough to wear all night (we love it for long flights and car rides, too!).

We tend to drink less water in the winter, so be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day. Drinking water not only directly hydrates your skin, but is helps flush toxins out of your body and can improve symptoms of skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Help! I’m broken out like a teenager.

Dry winter air can actually cause your skin to produce more sebum, leading to breakouts. Another major culprit is going to bed without washing your makeup off your face, which is just really bad for your skin (and your pillowcase). For normal to oily skin, we recommend Skin Pharm Papaya Enzyme Cleanser, a deep cleanser with salicylic acid (a godsend for acne-prone folks). Normal to dry skin types should opt for Skin Pharm Gentle Soothing Cleanser, which strips all your makeup and impurities while soothing skin with rich botanical extracts.

All skin types will benefit from one of our best-sellers, our Skin Pharm Clarifying Pads, which deliver a gentle, microchemical peel to exfoliate skin, clear acne and prevent future breakouts. Sensitive skin types may only need to use the pads two to three times a week, while oiler types can tolerate daily use.

If you’re in need of a stronger peel, we’re big fans of our Light Refresh Peel, a simple, non-invasive treatment that reduces pore size and treats uneven skin tone and blemishes. A series of peels not only improves any sun damage left over from the summer, but can smooth rough texture, fine lines and wrinkles. Chemical peels also stimulate collagen production underneath the skin, improving the overall appearance of your skin. Peels are quick and easy and require minimal recovery — they can be done on your lunch break — so you’ll be refreshed and glowing for those holiday parties in no time!

How did I even get into nursing?

Thankfully I was good at science. I didn’t love math or history, so I joke that science was the path of least resistance. After taking (and enjoying) a Human Anatomy and Physiology course, I received clarity, and continued on with my pre-nursing requirements to become a RN (registered nurse), and eventually a Family Nurse Practitioner.

So no, I did not dream of being a nurse when I was  6 years old (I was too busy singing Spice Girls), but I did find this path organically. And we’re all about things happening organically at Skin Pharm.

While in undergraduate school I discovered that I had a huge interest in the heart — literally, in the human heart. I took a job on congestive heart failure, and on that unit I was amazed at how an ill heart could present visible symptoms in the skin with weeping, oozing wounds. Perhaps this was where my interest in skin was piqued, but it still took several years for me to find my path to what would eventually become Skin Pharm.

Upon graduating, I knew the ICU would be great opportunity for me to exercise being a critical thinker, and to apply my knowledge of how to treat a sick patient when any or all of the body systems are failing. The experience I received was invaluable, but I knew it wasn’t my forever job.

I took a job with a plastic surgeon who focused on reconstructive surgery, which was partially a continuum of what I was previously doing, but more specialized. He didn’t have much of an interest in cosmetic plastic surgery, but he offered me the opportunity to learn injections and lasers. Once I realized how much I enjoyed medical aesthetics, I read every article, watched every video, went to every course, and asked for every trainer to visit the office.

I was also studying to earn my Masters Degree at this time and found a particular interest in a course called Clinical Decision Making for the Family Nurse Practitioner. This course emphasized the utilization of evidence-based practice and integration of technology into primary care — all coming together now, right?

I was 24 years old and just beginning to pay off student loans, so I found myself amazed by the money people would spend on their faces.

But I also realized that the people sitting in the chair — who were investing a great deal of money in themselves — took their consults very seriously. They took my advice about how to take better care of their skin, and their overall health.

So, when I said, “Buy SPF before you even start Botox,” they would. And they’d use it — I could see the difference in patients I’ve been seeing for several years now, and it’s still my number-one piece of advice for patients. When I said, “Get out of the tanning bed and then come back for lip filler,” they really did it!

I was doing cosmetic procedures, which some may view as superficial treatments, but I was also playing a part in helping people make positive changes that didn’t just impact their appearance, but their overall health. When you can help someone make a healthier choice, there’s nothing superficial about that.

Launching Skin Pharm — and then the Skin Pharm skincare line — was a big leap, but I knew it was the right one.

We quickly outgrew our first office, landing at our current spot on 21st in Nashville, where I work alongside my dream team each day.

But my job is never really finished. There’s always new medical research for me and my team to learn about, or innovative technologies and treatments to consider bringing to Skin Pharm. I do my best to balance my work with everything else in life — like spending time with my husband and two kids, hanging with friends, or traveling — but I wouldn’t change anything. Well, except maybe having more hours in the day!

I had microneedling done for the first time about two months ago, and I was immediately hooked.

Not familiar with microneedling? It’s a procedure that uses a device with tiny, shallow needles that create even tinier holes in the skin’s surface. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, which can plump the skin, fill in fine lines and break up scar tissue, resulting in a more youthful appearance. (For those of you who have seen a DIY version that you can buy online, file this treatment under “best left to the experts,” like a bikini wax.)

I’m 38 years old and my biggest skin concerns are anti-aging and anti-acne. I also have some discoloration on my skin from years of being out in the sun (oops) but I am now very diligent about wearing SPF 50 every day and doing things I didn’t do in my 20s and early 30s, like washing my face every night and adhering to a skin care routine that Maegan Griffin, NP-C recommended for me. Oh, and Botox! Who doesn’t love Botox?

Anyway, I had a lot of friends comment on how dewy and youthful my skin looked after my first microneedling procedure, but they were wary about things like whether the procedure is painful (it isn’t) and how much downtime they’d need to account for (not much).

Here’s what you can expect from microneedling, from the day of your procedure and the following week.

Day 1:

I arrived at Skin Pharm, removed my makeup and applied numbing cream to my face. I took the opportunity to flip through every magazine in the room (such fun!) while the numbing cream took effect, and then Megan returned to start the procedure with the SkinStylus, which resembles a tiny magic wand. As she’d been there for my first microneedling appointment, she noticed that my skin wasn’t reacting as strongly — it wasn’t as red, and I didn’t have any bleeding (it’s totally normal to have minor blood beading from the needles — you don’t feel it as you’re totally numb, and they heal incredibly quickly). Maegan noted that we were even going about a millimeter deeper than we went the previous time, which means the microneedling was doing it’s job — my skin was growing stronger.

If you’re worried about what it feels like, I can attest that it does not hurt. The microneedling feels like a combination of a vacuum and a razor, and while you may feel some minor pressure around your jawline — and some major tickling around your nose! — it isn’t painful at all.

The whole thing took less than 15 minutes. Maegan spread some post procedure cream on my face and I headed straight to the nail salon to get a pedicure (in case you didn’t notice, I was totally having a “me” day, ha). I thought I was going to get some weird looks, but nobody seemed to notice — it looked like I had a mild sunburn. I even met a friend for drinks after that — she was curious about microneedling and wanted to see what I looked like — and she was surprised by how normal I looked! I didn’t wear makeup the rest of the day and used the gentle cleanser Maegan instructed me to use that evening. I re-applied the post procedure cream before bed.

Day 2:

When I woke up my skin felt a little tight, but most of the redness had faded from the previous day. I rinsed my face and put post procedure cream and SPF on before using my regular BB cream (by Dr. Jart). Even in the harsh, ridiculously unflattering fluorescent light in my office bathroom, my skin looked totally normal. It still felt a little dry, so I was happy to wash my face when I got home and applied more medical barrier cream.
Without makeup.
With makeup.

Day 3:

My skin was a little dry and flaky, but returned to normal as soon as I put more moisturizer and SPF on. I don’t know if you can tell in the picture, but my skin was GLOWING. I barely needed any BB cream as the skin tone looked much more even, and overall I just looked refreshed and renewed. I continued to use the gentle post procedure face wash, but used my regular night cream and serums prescribed by Maegan Griffin.
Without makeup.

Day 4:

I was definitely having a little more peeling on Day 4, so I used a mild exfoliant to get the dead skin off before applying my moisurizer and SPF. Once again, as soon as I put the BB cream on, everything looked normal. Well, better than normal — glowing, even skin tone, refreshed. I used my exfoliating cleanser that evening and my aforementioned night cream/serum combo.

Day 5:

By Day 5 my skin felt hydrated — the flaking had pretty much disappeared at this point and I hardly needed any BB cream to even out my skin tone. I did my normal skin care routine at night and everything felt back to normal!

Day 6:

I woke up to a stupid hormonal pimple on my cheek – FOILED. Fortunately the rest of my face looked fabulous and it was easy to conceal so I didn’t stress over it. I hadn’t been using my usual anti-acne treatment as I was worried it would dry out my skin as it healed from the microneedling, but I used it this morning and at night along with my regular skin care routine.

Day 7:

Thank goodness I have the photo to prove this as I wouldn’t believe it, but that pimple disappeared overnight. Not sure if that’s a benefit of the microneedling, but I woke up to clear, even, glowing skin. I even made it another makeup-free day because I didn’t feel like I needed it. If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be voluntarily going makeup-free, I wouldn’t have believed you. That’s one of the best things about getting into a good skincare routine — once you figure out what works for you, it streamlines your entire beauty routine because you’re not wasting time concealing your skin. Microneedling actually treats and improves your skin, and there’s nothing to hide about healthy skin, right?
